Honouring the deep blue sea and the soul of the labour surrounding it, Argentina’s CA Aldosivi bring the waters of Mar del Plata directly onto their latest shirt.
Named ‘Los Principios’, or The Principles, the new third kit is awash with sea greens, rolling waves and references to the people whose lives are intertwined with the coastline.

Mar del Plata is home to one of Argentina’s most important ports, with fishing and maritime industries forming a major part of the city’s identity. Aldosivi have looked towards those relentless hands for a shirt that celebrates both the waters and the people working upon them.
Visually, Kappa have gone all in on the theme.

The shirt moves from a darker green into a lighter, almost sea-foam shade as the waves travel down the body. A textured finish adds another layer, catching the eye almost like shifting water under the light.
Classic Kappa Omini branding running across the shoulders gives it that instantly recognisable finishing touch.

Aldosivi aren’t alone in heading towards the water for inspiration this season.
Marítimo and Hummel recently dug into Madeira’s maritime history with ships’ wheels, knotted rope and an almost naval-style collar:
Sorrento and Ezeta went considerably further back, using the legendary Sirens associated with the Sorrentine Peninsula to build an entire three-shirt collection around the sea:
The sea has always provided football clubs with identity, particularly in port cities, but it feels particularly well suited to modern kit design. Waves, changing colours, ships, fishing and the people working around them give designers plenty to play with without every maritime shirt ending up looking the same.

There is another element to Aldosivi’s release worth talking about too.
Football kit launches are becoming increasingly ambitious.
RC Lens recently held a mock wedding to launch their third shirt, something we explored here:
We’ve seen shirts launched underwater, clubs build entire cinematic campaigns around them and locations become almost as important as the kit itself.
For Aldosivi, though, the connection between concept, shirt and surroundings makes sense. This isn’t the sea being used simply because it makes for striking imagery. It belongs to Mar del Plata and to the people the shirt is designed to represent.
Maritime roots woven into the club’s collection.
Which club has produced the best nautical-themed football shirt?
