A little glamour and prestige pave the way for two new Wisła Kraków shirts, with the home and third offering very different interpretations of the club and its city.
The home shirt takes the more celebratory route.

Wisła’s famous white star dominates the rich red base, but look closer and there is plenty happening around it. A subtle interpretation of a sash runs through the shirt, while the star itself contains lyrics from the club song “Jak długo na Wawelu”, a piece of Wisła culture closely associated with the club.

The year 1906 then appears in gold alongside the crest, marking the year Wisła was founded, before being repeated much more subtly throughout the red fabric.

It is the sort of detailing that rewards a closer look without completely taking over the shirt.

The third kit heads in another direction entirely.
Blue provides the backdrop for a design paying homage to the Vistula River, Poland’s longest river and an integral part of Kraków itself. A subtle all-over pattern swirls across the shirt, giving the impression of moving water without resorting to an obvious graphic of the river.

Then there’s the collar.
A crisp white collar and matching cuffs cut sharply against the blue, with the cuffs carrying another pattern that almost resembles waves themselves.

We have already asked whether football shirts are simply better with collars, and this one certainly isn’t doing anything to change our minds.

There is something about a proper contrasting collar that can completely change the character of a football shirt. Here, it takes what could have been a relatively understated blue design and gives it considerably more presence.
The bright white Wisła star still shines through on both shirts, though. One sits against a celebration of the club’s history, the other against a tribute to the city that surrounds it.

Two different stories, but a pretty consistent identity.
So, collars on football shirts: always an improvement, or can they ruin an otherwise great design?
