From the depths of the ocean to the great sea of stars, La Napoli Women, Modì and Craft have done it again.
Where the home shirt explored Naples’ relationship with the sea and the legendary Siren Parthenope, Chapter II of their story blasts considerably further.
We’re going to the Moon.

The inspiration comes from an extraordinary piece of Neapolitan literature written by astronomer Ernesto Capocci in 1857.
His proto-science-fiction story imagined Urania, a Neapolitan woman travelling to the Moon in the year 2057. At a time when even imagining a woman independently leading such a scientific adventure was radical, the story became about considerably more than space travel. It carried ideas of female emancipation, scientific progress and a different vision of the future.
That’s exactly the territory La Napoli Women are embracing as they establish their new identity.
The away shirt itself looks relatively simple at first glance, but once again there’s much more going on.

That unusual base sits somewhere between grey and lilac, deliberately creating the feeling of a fictional lunar landscape. Across the raglan sleeves and side panels, a sublimated texture represents the surface of the Moon.
It’s a wonderful shade.
The almost celestial appearance also provides another great canvas for the club’s new crest, which is raised from the shirt in pearl-white 3D PVC. On the back, the journey is completed with ‘To the Moon’ sitting beneath the collar.
There’s plenty to like.

There is, however, one fairly obvious question when you put it alongside the home shirt.
Is it actually different enough?
The home travels through different shades of blue, from the familiar lighter Napoli tones into the darker depths of the sea. The away might officially be grey and lilac, but visually it’s still sitting remarkably close to that same cool blue spectrum.

As individual shirts, they tell two very different stories.
As a home and away pairing, though, there’s surprisingly little distance between them.
It’s almost ironic. The story has travelled from the depths of the Mediterranean to the surface of the Moon. We’re just not convinced the colour palette has travelled quite as far.
Perhaps that’s the bigger question.
Does an away shirt simply need to be distinguishable when required, or should it offer supporters something completely different from the home?
Either way, we’re looking forward to La Napoli’s voyage. Be it sea or sky, they’re certainly giving us plenty to talk about.
