Going Stateside 🏈

Cagliari have leaned fully into American football influences with their latest away kit, turning a concept usually left to mock-ups and crossover edits into a full release.

The inspiration is obvious immediately. Thick sleeve striping in the club’s navy and red dominates the design and gives the shirt that unmistakable gridiron feel straight away. It is bold, direct and clearly built around classic NFL aesthetics rather than simply borrowing small details.

The collar plays a big role too. Shaped similarly to the styles long associated with American football jerseys, it features a central diamond insert where NFL kits would traditionally place the league shield. Here, Cagliari swap that for a simplified version of their own crest, which is one of the smarter touches across the whole design.

The white base also carries a textured print designed to resemble the mesh fabric associated with older football jerseys. Small vent-style detailing across the shirt helps complete the effect without making the kit feel overly costumey or exaggerated.

It is a concept-driven release, but one that commits properly to the idea rather than stopping halfway. With the World Cup heading to North America as well, the timing feels fitting for a kit that fully embraces stateside sporting culture.
