Living and loving life in the blue and red of Catania.
For the Rossazzurri, those colours are far more than something worn for 90 minutes. They are an unmistakable part of the club and the city, so Erreà haven’t tried to reinvent something that doesn’t need reinventing.

Stripes are stripes. You don’t mess with them.
Much of the character instead comes from everything surrounding them. The bright blue and red are framed by black detailing, most notably a proper contrasting collar that pushes the shirt towards an almost retro aesthetic.

We’ve been appreciating plenty of collars recently, including the bold treatment on Go Ahead Eagles’ third kit:
Marítimo and Hummel went even further with a wide naval-inspired collar on their latest third shirt:
Catania’s version is considerably simpler, but against those famous blue and red stripes it does exactly what’s required.
The black itself isn’t quite as straightforward as it initially appears either.
Look closer at the darker sections and side panels and a subtle pattern emerges, inspired by the volcanic surroundings of Catania. It’s an element the club have leaned into much more heavily with their third kit this season, while the home keeps the reference understated and lets the Rossazzurri colours dominate.

That balance feels right. There’s enough happening to distinguish the shirt without interfering with an identity the people of Catania are incredibly proud to shout about.
Erreà have been particularly good at giving clubs that individuality this season. SPAL’s Palio-inspired away shirt brought medieval Ferrara into the detailing:
The vineyards of South Tyrol provided the inspiration for FC Südtirol’s intricate third shirt:
Catania’s approach is different again, built primarily around protecting one of Italian football’s most recognisable colour combinations.
It raises another question about a manufacturer with a seriously long history in the game.
Which team screams Erreà to you?
Parma? Middlesbrough? Iceland? Catania? Someone completely different?
Certain clubs and manufacturers become almost inseparable in your head. Erreà have more of those relationships than they sometimes get credit for.
Catania certainly wear the double diamond well.
Here’s to I Rossazzurri.
